Terror attack case opened over drone attack on Moscow area - Russian Investigative Committee (Part 2)

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - Investigators have defined the drone attack on the Moscow area as a terror attack, the Russian Investigative Committee said on Telegram on Tuesday.

"On the orders from the Russian Investigative Committee chairman, the Committee's Main Investigative Department has opened a criminal case over the attack by unmanned aerial vehicles under Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (terror attack)," the statement said.

"Experienced detectives and forensic specialists from the central staff of the Russian Investigative Committee and experts from the Committee's Forensic Expertise Center are taking part in the investigation," it said.

"Drone fragments have been found on the incident scenes and seized, and a comprehensive forensic examination has been planned. The investigation will uncover details of the incident and will identify the types of unmanned aerial vehicles and explosive devices," the statement said.

"The actions of everyone involved will be evaluated by criminal law," it said.

Drones attacked Moscow on Tuesday morning. Some of them inflicted insignificant damage on buildings.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that, out of eight drones, three were disabled by electronic warfare systems in Moscow and five were downed by a Pantsir system in the Moscow region.

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, two people needed medical attention but none required hospitalization.

The Russian Investigative Committee said earlier that it was investigating "the facts of unmanned aerial vehicles' fall on building in Moscow" and identifying persons involved in the crime.
