NEW YORK, UN. May 31 (Interfax) - Russia will do the utmost to heighten nuclear safety and security of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.
"Under the circumstances, Russia will do the utmost to heighten nuclear safety and security of the power plant consistent with national laws and obligations imposed by the related international legal instruments, whose member our country is," Nebenzya said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
Russia "has taken practical steps to protect the most vulnerable structures, systems and components of the plant from attacks and sabotage," he said.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said at a meeting of the UN Security Council earlier that security levels remained unstable at the Zaporozhye NPP.
Grossi said on May 22 he was in talks on an agreement to protect the Zaporozhye NPP, including by available and safe external power supply.
