Main base of Russia's Baltic Fleet holds aerosol camouflage exercise

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - The Russian military practiced camouflaging ships with an aerosol screen harmless to humans during a special exercise in the city of Baltiysk, the Russian Baltic Fleet's press service said on Wednesday.

"The whole area of the military harbor was covered with an aerosol cloud. The smoke screen concealed a Baltic Fleet unit's moored ships for a period of time in line with the established standards," it said.

The aerosol cloud was deployed from the territory of the fleet's garrisons housing personnel of missile, anti-submarine and landing ship units, it said.

"TDA-M vehicles on a GAZ-66 chassis, non-staff aerosol camouflage units and a radiation and chemical defense boat, which used maritime smoke grenades, acted as mobile smoke discharge systems," the press service said.

The smoke mixtures that were used during the exercise are not harmful to humans, it said.
