Aliyev, Sandu discuss future of Azerbaijani-Moldovan relations

BAKU. June 1 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu met in Chisinau on Wednesday to discuss the future of their countries' bilateral relations, says a statement published on the Azerbaijani presidential website.

"[The sides] noted at the meeting that relations between our countries are being maintained at a good level, [they] touched on cooperation in energy, investment and other areas, and discussed the prospects for our relations," the statement said.

The sides "underlined the existence of good opportunities for broadening trade and economic relations, and noted the importance of stepping up efforts in these areas," it said.

The sides stressed that Azerbaijan and Moldova always express support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of each other, the statement said.

Aliyev congratulated Sandu on hosting a summit of the European Political Community on June 1 and hailed Moldova's organization of the summit.

In turn, Sandu welcomed a five-sided meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, the European Council, Germany and France, which will held on the sidelines of the summit, as a positive step.

Aliyev invited Sandu to visit Azerbaijan, and the Moldovan president accepted the invitation.

The Azerbaijani president arrived in Moldova on Wednesday for the second summit of the European Political Community.
