MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Preparations for the redeployment of a new Russian strategic nuclear submarine, the Generalissimus Suvorov, from the Northern Fleet to the Pacific Fleet are being finalized, the Russian military said.
"The brand new strategic missile submarine of Project Borei-A, the Generalissimus Suvorov, is going through its final preparations for redeployment to the Pacific Fleet," the Russian Northern Fleet's press service said on Thursday.
The Generalissimus Suvorov joined the Russian Navy in December 2022. The Russian Defense Ministry said on January 19 that the submarine was redeployed to the Northern Fleet.
"While at its location with the Northern Fleet, the submarine's crew will undertake a combat training course and complete training missions. Once this is done, the submarine will head for its permanent base with the Pacific Fleet," the ministry said on January 19.
The Generalissimus Suvorov was built at Sevmash in Severodvinsk as part of the upgraded Project Borei-A. It is a fourth-generation nuclear submarine. According to the Russian Defense Ministry's website, Bulava ICBMs are the submarine's primary weapon.
According to the ministry's website, the Generalissimus Suvorov is armed with modern missiles and torpedoes, as well as radio-technical, hydro-acoustic and navigation systems. The submarine has a low acoustic signature.
