MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud have met for consultations on the sidelines of a BRICS ministerial meeting in Cape Town, and the parties reaffirmed their determination to deepen the political dialogue between the two countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"During [their] conversation, the parties had a substantial discussion of the priorities for stepping up mutually beneficial, multifaceted Russian-Saudi cooperation, in line with the agreements reached earlier at the highest level," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
The two ministers "reaffirmed Moscow and Riyadh's resolve to have a more profound political dialogue and [establish] closer coordination at the UN and [at] other multilateral platforms," it said.
"They also compared notes extensively on relevant international and Middle East problems, with an emphasis placed on settling military and political conflicts in Sudan and Yemen and normalizing the situation in Syria and around it, taking into account the resumption of Syria's involvement in the Arab League's activities in light of the decisions made at the recent general Arab summit in Jeddah," it said.
