Belarusian carriers report beginning of customs control on Russian border

MINSK. June 1 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Association of International Road Carriers (BAMAP) has said it is receiving reports from Belarusian carriers about their vehicles being rerouted by the Russian Border Service to nearby checkpoints for inspection when arriving at the Zvenchatka-Ponyatovka checkpoint.

"The BAMAP has asked the Belarusian State Customs Committee for clarification. The Belarusian State Customs Committee said the following, referring to information from the Russian Customs Service's mission to the Belarusian Customs Service: The Russian Federation has a number of norms and regulations which aim to ensure the security of the Russian Federation through special economic measures," the statement said.

This concerns the transit to third countries via Russian territory of "particular kinds of agricultural products, raw materials and food with origins in a country that has imposed economic sanctions on Russian legal entities and/or individuals, or has joined such sanctions, as well as particular kinds of goods originating from or shipped from or through Ukrainian territory," it said.

Such control is exercised at stationary and mobile control posts along the Belarusian-Russian border, namely, Krasnoye (at the 456th kilometer of Route M1, Belarus). Rudnya (at the 448th kilometer of Route R-120, Oryol-Bryansk-Smolensk-Belarusian border), and Krasny Kamen (at the 220th kilometer of Route A-240, Bryansk-Novozybkov-Belarusian border), the statement said.
