Belarusian, Russian defense officials discuss arms control in Europe

MINSK. June 1 (Interfax) - Representatives of Belarus's Defense Ministry and Russia's National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center have met in Minsk to discuss a cooperation strategy and the need to create a new system for arms control in Europe, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said.

"The attendees of the meeting stated the need to create a new system for arms control in Europe and reaffirmed the readiness of the Belarusian and Russian defense ministries for further close cooperation on this issue," the statement said.

"The sides discussed a strategy for bilateral cooperation in the sphere of providing for Belarus," it said.

The Belarusian defense minister's aide for international military cooperation Colonel Valery Revenko and a delegation from the Russian Nuclear Risk Reduction Center attended the meeting.
