Governor of Russia's Belgorod region reports 12 casualties after Ukrainian attacks over past day

VORONEZH. June 1 (Interfax) - The governor of Russia's Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, has reported numerous attacks by the Ukrainian side recorded in the region over the past 24 hours on May 31.

"Several populated areas in the Shebekino urban district have come under numerous artillery attacks. In the past 24-hour period alone, 12 people have been injured. All of them are being provided with appropriate medical assistance. There are no fatalities," Gladkov wrote on Telegram on Thursday.

According to tentative information, damage of various kind has been inflicted to four apartment buildings, 18 private houses, three administrative buildings, the building of a farm, the premises of an industrial plant, a dormitory building and a kindergarten, five cars and one bus, he said.

"Five strikes have been recorded in the Belgorod district. All of them targeted the village of Shchetinovka, which came under artillery fire. It has caused no casualties or damage," he said.

In the Borisovka district, the outskirts of the Bogun-Gorodok village came under mortar fire, and a shell fell on a road. A resident of the village of Vesyolaya Lopan was injured as a result of the shelling. He was wounded on his right forearm, and doctors are now providing him with necessary medical aid, he said.

"In the Valuyki urban district, 11 strikes have been recorded. Five and six mortar shells have hit the villages of Novopetrovka and Karabanovo, respectively. No casualties. Damage of various degrees has been inflicted to six households and one car. A power transmission line was damaged in the village of Novopetrovka," Gladkov said.

The village of Stary came under mortar and artillery fire in the Volokonovka district in the reported 24-hour period. Totally, 17 shells were fired. No casualties or damage has been reported, the governor said.

Fifty-seven explosions of shells were recorded in the same period in the Graivoron urban district, he said.

"The village of Kozinka was hit with 47 mortar shells, seven mortar shells landed at the border crossing [...]. No casualties. In Kozinka, various types of damage have been recorded in five private households, one administrative building, and one store. A power transmission line was torn in four different streets," he said.

The village Grafovka in the Krasnaya Yaruga district of the Belgorod region came under artillery fire in the reported period, with three shell explosions being recorded there. No casualties have been reported. Power transmission lines and gas pipelines were damaged there but later restored, the governor said. Three households and a store were also damaged in the area, he said.

Five artillery shells have been fired at the village of Ryapikhovka, with no casualties being reported. One private household has been affected, Gladkov said.
