Air defense systems down several drones near Kursk - governor (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax) - Russian air defense systems have downed several unmanned aerial vehicles near Kursk, the region's governor, Roman Starovoit, said on Telegram on Friday morning.

"Air defense systems downed several Ukrainian drones near Kursk early this morning," Starovoit said.

He asked local residents to remain calm. "The city is reliably protected by our military," he said.

Starovoit said in a later update that a further attack damaged the entrance of an apartment building and some private houses.

"A Ukrainian drone attack damaged the porch of an apartment block and several houses in Kursk this morning," Starovoit said. "What matters most is that there were no casualties!" he said.

The cost of the damage caused by the attacks is now being calculated, he said.

A high (yellow) terrorist threat level has been in effect in the Kursk region since April 11, 2022. The region borders Ukraine and has been repeatedly shelled.
