Two women killed in attack on Shebekino district in Russia's Belgorod region - governor (Part 2)

BELGOROD. June 2 (Interfax) - Two women have been killed in a Ukrainian army attack on the Shebekino urban district, Russia's Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Friday.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces have shelled a road in the village of Maslova Pristan in the Shebekino district. Shell fragments hit passing cars. Two women driving in one of the cars died instantly from injuries. Two people in another car were hurt," Gladkov said on Telegram.

A man sustained shell fragment wounds to the chest, and another man received wounds to his legs. "They were taken to [Belgorod] city hospital in severe condition and provided with full medical assistance," he said.

A village located near the border in the Volokonovka district has also been shelled, he said.

"Tube artillery fired 11 shells at the village of Tishanka in the Volokonovka district. There were no casualties. Windows were shattered in two private houses, and a trunk gas pipeline and a power transmission line have been damaged. Emergency and response services are working at the scene," Gladkov said.

Another village was shelled in the Valuyki urban district, he said.

"No one was hurt in an attack on the village of Leonovka in the Valuyki district, but the exterior of an agricultural company's grain storage building was damaged," Gladkov said.

Door-to-door inspections are ongoing, he said,

The border territories of the Belgorod region have been sporadically shelled from Ukraine since February 24, 2022. There have been civilian casualties. The region has declared a high (yellow) level of terrorist alert and a state of emergency in 15 residential settlements near the border.
