Russian, UAE FMs discuss regional affairs, cooperation in energy and advanced technologies in Cape Town

MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan have discussed cooperation in industry, advanced technologies, energy and other areas, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

Lavrov and his UAE colleague met on the sidelines of a BRICS ministerial conference in Cape Town on Friday.

"The meeting reaffirmed the mutual aspiration of Moscow and Abu Dhabi to continue the progressive development of traditionally friendly Russian-UAE relations, in the spirit of the Declaration of Strategic Partnership approved in Moscow on June 1, 2018," the ministry said.

The ministers discussed tasks relating to the "further progressive development of mutually advantageous cooperation in various areas, including in industry, advanced technologies, transport, energy, tourism and the peaceful use of outer space," it said.

They also addressed regional and global affairs and reaffirmed their coordination on international platforms, the ministry said.
