Lavrov to visit Tajikistan

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Tajikistan on June 5-6 for a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and negotiations with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

"The meetings are expected to address topical aspects of bilateral relations and further development of the Moscow-Dushanbe alliance in political, trade, economic and humanitarian fields. Views will be exchanged on global and regional affairs of mutual interest," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

Emphasis will be put on further deepening of foreign political coordination between Russia and Tajikistan on main multilateral platforms. These include the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), it said.

"While on visit, Sergei Lavrov plans to deliver a speech at a meeting with young diplomats, students, journalists, and members of expert and academic communities of Tajikistan at the Russian-Tajik Slavonic University, to attend a presentation of the Russian Classical Writers and Orthodoxy book collection, and to visit the 201st Russian military base," the statement said.
