KURSK. June 5 (Interfax) - Roman Starovoit, the governor of Russia's Kursk region, has reported a marked increase in the frequency of drone launches by the Ukrainian military in the past week.
"We can see that Ukraine's use of unmanned aerial vehicles has considerably intensified over the past week. We have deployed ECM and purchased a sufficient number of anti-drone weapons," Starovoit said at a meeting of the regional government on Monday.
He thanked residents of the Kursk region who have been active in reporting drone sightings to the 112 hotline.
Ukrainian drones attacked the Kursk region several times last week. Intense drone attacks were observed on June 2. A number of Ukrainian drones were downed by air defense near Kursk. A drone hit an apartment block and several private houses in Kursk. The power supply to the village of Gogolevka in the Sudzha district was cut when a drone dropped a bomb on an electric substation. Starovoit said on Sunday that a Ukrainian drone was downed in Sudzha.
A yellow (high) level of terrorist alert has been in effect in the Kursk region since April 11, 2022. The region, which borders Ukraine, has repeatedly come under attack.
