Kremlin unaware of Indonesia's Ukraine settlement plan being forwarded to Moscow - Peskov

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - The Kremlin is unaware of any detailed plan for a Ukraine settlement, proposing that a UN-monitored demilitarized zone be established, having been forwarded to Moscow via diplomatic channels, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"I am unaware of anything detailed having been forwarded via diplomatic channels, and therefore I can't say anything [about this]," Peskov told journalists on Monday, when asked about Moscow's attitude toward Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto's proposal to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine and establish a demilitarized zone under UN control along the line of contact.

The Straits Times reported earlier that the Indonesian defense minister had proposed a plan with multiple stages for settling the crisis in Ukraine, "including a ceasefire in place at present positions of both conflicting parties and establishing a demilitarized zone by withdrawing 15km from each party's forward position."

"The demilitarized zone should be observed and monitored by a peacekeeping force deployed by the United Nations, he said, adding that a UN referendum should be held to ascertain objectively the wishes of the majority of the inhabitants of the various disputed areas," the Straits Times reported.

Speaking at the International Institute for Strategic Studies' Asia Security Summit ('The Shangri-La Dialogue') in Singapore, Subianto also proposed that the summit's participants adopt a declaration urging Russia and Ukraine to immediately enter into negotiations.
