Russian Defense Ministry reports Yars ICBM exercise in Altai Territory

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - Yars intercontinental ballistic missile systems have been deployed to combat patrol routes as part of a scheduled exercise of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces in the Altai Territory, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The Barnaul formation of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, stationed in the Altai Territory, deployed autonomous launchers of Yars road-mobile missile systems to combat patrol routes," the ministry said.

"Yars road-mobile missile systems will perform a march of up to 100 kilometers, disperse, redeploy, prepare, camouflage and guard their positions," it said.

"The planned exercise will check the preparedness of troops, weapons and military hardware for long-term duty on combat patrol routes," the ministry said.

Missile units and detachments will maneuver and disperse in forests to ensure the secrecy of Yars operations and will train the countering of sabotage-and-reconnaissance groups, it said.

The ministry released footage of Yars road-mobile systems leaving hangars, traveling, and being camouflaged.
