Former Yekaterinburg mayor's conviction of discrediting Russian Armed Forces takes effect - court

YEKATERINBURG. June 6 (Interfax) - The sentence pronounced on former Yekaterinburg Mayor Yevgeny Roizman, designated in Russia as a foreign agent, on counts of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces has taken effect, Yekaterinburg's Oktyabrsky District Court said on Tuesday.

"On June 6, the prosecutor [...] revoked his appeal. The sentence has taken effect," the court said.

The Oktyabrsky District Court in Yekaterinburg found Roizman guilty of public actions aimed to discredit operations of the Russian Armed Forces and ordered him to pay a 260,000-ruble fine on May 19.

Roizman told reporters after the trial that he was not going to file an appeal.

The prosecution service appealed the sentence on June 5, yet the court sent it back for "redrafting."

The Russian Justice Ministry added Roizman to the register of foreign agents in fall 2022.
