MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has instructed the Kherson regional prosecutor's office to oversee the provision of assistance to residents of areas affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant (HPP).
"In line with a directive by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, in the wake of the burst of the Kakhovka HPP in the Kherson region, the regional prosecutor's office is taking measures aimed at protecting citizens affected by the disaster," the Prosecutor General's Office said on Tuesday.
Pavel Zernov, first deputy prosecutor of the Kherson region, has been dispatched to the flood-stricken areas, the office said. Interaction has been maintained with the local branch of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, the regional administration, and other agencies, it said.
"The provision of the population with information has been organized now, and temporary accommodation centers are being set up in adjacent localities. Mobile prosecutorial teams have been put together to be able to travel to check accommodation centers for evacuees, including in terms of their provision with food, medical aid, utilities, and primary necessities, as well as the provision of information and psychological support," it said.
Prosecution authorities are also "supervising the exercise by authorized agencies of their powers in organizing the people's evacuation from the territories within the flooded area, including the provision of transport vehicles at boarding sites and the process of boarding transport vehicles."
