Drop in Dnieper water levels will not have tangible impact on Zaporozhye region - governor

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - The drop in the Dnieper river's water levels caused by the destruction of the Kakhovskaya Hydropower Plant's infrastructure will not affect people's lives in the Zaporozhye region, Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said.

"We expect the decline to increase, and it will probably be up to 7 meters. But I want to once again reassure everyone [...] This won't have the kind of effect where we might [have to] declare a state of emergency," Balitsky said on the Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) television channel on Tuesday.

There is no threat to the operation of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant either, he said. "This does not threaten the power plant. [...] The nuclear power plant won't stop working," Balitsky said.

Currently, the regional authorities have produced water reserves for approximately one and a half months.
