Ukrainian offensive attempts foiled, enemy stopped - Shoigu (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - The attempted offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been disrupted and the enemy has been stopped, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"Attempts [to undertake] an offensive have been disrupted, the enemy has been stopped; Russian soldiers and officers have displayed courage and heroism in action," Shoigu said on Tuesday.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine failed to attain their goals, and sustained "considerable and incomparable losses," he said.

He also praised the work of tactical, assault and army aviation.

"They deployed 50 guided anti-tank missiles. As a result, five tanks and 29 other armored fighting vehicles were destroyed," Shoigu said.

The units that distinguished themselves the most were from the 433rd Motorized Infantry Regiment of the 127th Motorized Infantry Division and from the 37th and 60th Motorized Infantry Brigades, the minister said.

He also praised the 3rd company of the 37th Motorized Infantry Brigade led by Junior Lieutenant Yury Zhelanov, and the commander of the brigade's 1st battalion Major Vladimir Polozhentsev.

These units were deployed along the path of the main strike, and inflicted considerable losses on the superior forces of Ukraine's 37th Naval Infantry Brigade, the Russian defense minister said.
