WASHINGTON. June 6 (Interfax) - The U.S. administration does not want an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, especially in the nuclear sphere, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday.
"President Biden has been extremely consistent that we don't want to see this war escalate, certainly not into a nuclear realm," Kirby said at a briefing.
He was asked about plans to send F-16s to Ukraine, and about the aircraft's ability to carry nuclear weapons. Kirby said that, if provided to Kiev, F-16s will be needed to defend Ukrainian territory.
In addition, it is not the U.S. but Russia that is making statements about nuclear weapons, Kirby said.
