MINSK. June 13 (Interfax) - Belarus will develop rocket production and bolster its potential, State Military Industrial Committee Chairman Dmitry Pantus said on Tuesday, following a working trip by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to a defense enterprise in the Minsk region.
"The [president] ordered late last year to begin serial production of ammunition in Belarus. The most common round, a 122mm rocket, was chosen as the basis [for this]," the Belarusian state-run news agency BelTA quoted Pantus as saying.
More than 20 enterprises of the State Military Industrial Committee and the Industry Ministry are manufacturing such ammunition in Belarus. "The plant visited by the president carries out final assembly of the rounds," Pantus said.
"We should give credit to the government and personally to the prime minister, who oversaw the project. As you can see, we have succeeded. We are planning to develop this sector and to broaden our capacities and potential in the near future," he said.
