PACE co-rapporteurs call on Baku, Yerevan to intensify peace talks

BAKU. June 14 (Interfax) - Ian Liddell-Granger and Lise Christoffersen, co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of Azerbaijan, have welcomed the progress in the peace talks between Baku and Yerevan.

"We welcome the recent progress made by Azerbaijan and Armenia to reach a peace agreement and urge both governments to intensify their bilateral negotiations in this respect," the co-rapporteurs said following their visit to Azerbaijan on June 3-7.

Liddell-Granger and Christoffersen welcomed Baku's efforts to clear the territory of mines and restore infrastructure in Karabakh.

Speaking about the situation on the Lachin road, the co-rapporteurs called for ensuring freedom of movement in accordance with their previous statements, the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) of December 21, 2022 and the decision of the UN International Court of Justice of February 22, 2023.

Liddell-Granger and Christoffersen also said they hope that "the Russian Federation peacekeeping forces will leave the area [Karabakh] by November 2025 at the latest."
