CSTO Secretary General Tasmagambetov, UN Under-Secretary-General DiCarlo discuss situation in Central Asia, peacekeeping in Moscow

MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - Imangali Tasmagambetov, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), had talks with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, who is visiting Moscow, the CSTO said.

"Considerable attention was given to regional issues in the CSTO zone of responsibility, and also the prospects of strengthening interaction with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia," according to a report published on the organization's website.

"Special emphasis was made on the CSTO Secretariat's participation in the New Agenda for Peace international discussion, an initiative of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres," the press release said.

"The progressive development of working contacts between the two organizations in the sphere of maintaining international peace and security, including the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, transborder crime and illegal migration, was also noted," the report said.

Besides, "the prospects of intensifying cooperation on peacekeeping issues, including the prospects of integrating the collective peacekeeping potential of the CSTO in peacekeeping operations conducted in accordance with the UN Security Council mandate were considered," the organization said.
