BELGOROD. June 16 (Interfax) - The Belgorod region's governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, has reported the scale of damage in the residential areas of Shebekino.
"According to tentative estimates, various amounts of damage have been registered in 113 apartment buildings and more than 700 private houses. Cleaning the streets and areas near buildings of shell debris, broken glass and garbage already began here today. Reconstruction work has also begun," the governor said on his Telegram channel on Friday, after visiting Shebekino.
Installation work has already started in the buildings where measurements were taken, with new panes of glass manufactured during intervals between intense attacks, he said.
Rebuilding work is proceeding in the city despite the attacks, the governor said.
"I went and thanked all those employees who are not afraid to work in the city right now. Of course, the danger remains, but people are trying to go back to their homes as soon as possible and bring life back to the city! Energy specialists are doing their jobs, [and so are] water service workers. Electricity is being supplied to Sholokhov, Yesenin, Kooperativnaya, Lermontov, Titov, Dokuchayeva, Tenistaya, Yubileinaya, Tsiolkovsky, Chkalov, Shevchenko, Lenin, Dzerzhinsky, Zheleznodorozhnaya, Frunze, and Parkovaya Streets, and the Severny, Mashzavod, and Logovoye neighborhoods. There are still some severed [power] lines leading to residential buildings; energy workers are repairing them," Gladkov said.
According to earlier reports, the authorities of the Shebekino City District organized the evacuation of residents to temporary accommodation facilities in the region and in other regions of Russia due to mass Ukrainian attacks.
The cold water supply could not be launched in the Shebekino City District for two weeks due to a lack of power. Throughout this time, water service company employees brought water to residents who remained in the city and people in the nearby villages. Water was supplied both to specific households and via mobile tankers.
Border areas of the Belgorod region have been attacked by Ukrainian troops since February 24, 2022. Civilians have been killed and wounded. For this reason, a yellow (high) terrorist threat level has been declared in the region. A state of emergency is in place in 15 communities close to the border.
