Russian Foreign Ministry reports first Russian-Chinese biosecurity consultations

MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) - The first Russian-Chinese interagency consultations on ensuring biological security took place in Moscow on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"[The sides] exchanged evaluations of threats to biological security. [They paid] special attention to the military and biological activity of the United States and the strengthening of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), [and] discussed bilateral cooperation in the biosecurity sector," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

"The meeting reaffirmed the unity of Russia and China's approaches to issues around biological security," the ministry said.

"The parties noted the need for further close coordination and constructive interaction both in a bilateral format and at relevant multilateral venues, primarily as part of the BTWC, the United Nations, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," it said.
