MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - Eight Ukrainian military service members have surrendered in the Krasny Liman theater of operations and one in the Kupyansk sector in the past 24 hours, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.
"In the Krasny Liman sector, the central group of forces used aircraft, artillery, and heavy flamethrower systems to strike Ukrainian Armed Forces units near Ploshchanka, Chervonopopovka, and Chervonaya Dibrova in the Lugansk People's Republic and near Yampolovka and Grigorovka in the Donetsk People's Republic," Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The actions of three Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups were disrupted in the areas of Chervonaya Dibrova and the Serebryanka forestry, he said.
"Eight Ukrainian troops surrendered," Konashenkov said.
The losses sustained by the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past 24 hours included up to 135 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armored fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks, a D-30 howitzer, and three Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, he said.
"In the Kupyansk sector, units of the western group of forces used army aircraft and artillery to strike enemy units near Berestovoye and Kislovka of the Kharkov region and Stelmakholvka of the Lugansk People's Republic," Konashenkov said.
The actions of three Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups were thwarted near Sinkovka and Kotlyarovka of the Kharkov region and Novoselovskoye of the LPR, he said.
"One Ukrainian service member surrendered," he said.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' losses in said sector over the past 24 hours included over 40 troops, one armored fighting vehicle, and two pickup trucks, he said.
"In the Kherson sector, over 60 Ukrainian troops were killed and seven automobiles, an Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, two Msta-B howitzers, and a U.S.-made M777 artillery system were destroyed over the past 24 hours," he said.
