U.S., NATO's aggressive stance on Ukraine situation could lead to clash between nuclear powers - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - The line pursued by the United States and NATO towards raising the stakes in the Ukraine conflict poses the risk of a direct armed clash between nuclear powers, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"The greatest danger is that, in pursuing their aggressive course towards dealing Russia what they [see] as a strategic defeat in the Ukraine conflict, which they have provoked themselves, the U.S. and NATO are continuing to raise the stakes and becoming more and more involved in military confrontation," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

"Obviously, this line, which we define as a reckless one, could lead to a direct armed clash between nuclear powers," she said.

"I think there's no need to once again clarify the essence of the strategic risks arising in this context, and the potentially disastrous developments in line with a worst-case scenario," Zakharova said.
