ROSTOV-ON-DON. June 22 (Interfax) - Bridges on the administrative border between the Kherson region and Crimea near Chongar were damaged by a missile strike delivered by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Kherson region's acting governor Vladimir Saldo said.
"A tentative assessment suggests that UK Storm Shadow missiles were used. The road surface on the bridges was damaged. No one was injured," Saldo said on his Telegram channel.
The bridges will be reopened to traffic "as soon as possible," he said.
A backup route is temporarily being used for communication between the Kherson region and Crimea.
The report about the strike has also been confirmed by head of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov.
"A strike was delivered on the Chongar bridge last night. There are no casualties. Explosives experts are currently working to determine the type of the ammunition used. Relevant services have started to examine the road surface. It will be reported within an hour whether traffic is possible," Aksyonov said on his Telegram channel.
There are currently two functioning crossing points in the north of Crimea - in Dzhankoi, near Chongar in the Kherson region, and in Armyansk.
