Macron inappropriate as guest at BRICS summit - Russian Deputy FM Ryabkov

SOCHI. June 22 (Interfax) - Moscow believes that French President Emmanuel Macron as a guest at the BRICS summit in South Africa would be inappropriate, and has informed the host country about its position, Russian Deputy Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov told reporters in Sochi on Thursday.

"Clearly, the leader of the country that pursues such a hostile and unacceptable policy toward us, emphasizes the need to isolate Russia internationally, and shares the common NATO line on inflicting a so-called strategic defeat on us, such a leader is inappropriate as a guest at the BRICS [summit]" Ryabkov said.

"We are not hiding our approach. We have informed colleagues from South Africa about it, and we hope that our point of view will be fully taken into consideration," he said.
