Russia to form reserve army, army corps by end of June - Shoigu (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - A reserve army and an army corps equipped with more than 3,000 pieces of military hardware will be formed in Russia by the end of June, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"We will finalize the formation of army reserves by the end of June, while the formation of an army corps will be finalized shortly," Shoigu said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council chaired by President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.

"Five regiments have been formed by more than 60%," Shoigu said.

The reserves will have over 3,000 pieces of military hardware, he said.

"In all, we have assigned 3,786 pieces of military hardware to the reserve army and corps," Shoigu said.

Every day, 1,336 contract servicemen join the Russian Armed Forces, Shoigu said. "In fact, we get a [new] regiment and 112 pieces of hardware on a daily basis," he said.
