ROSTOV-ON-DON. June 23 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Armed Forces have fired 72 artillery rounds over the past 24 hours at towns and villages on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, where cleanup efforts are ongoing in the wake of the flood, a spokesperson for the region's emergency services told reporters.
Civilian infrastructure in the towns of Novaya Kakhovka and Kakhovka and in the villages of Malaya Lepetikha and Podlesnoye were attacked with tube artillery overnight, the spokesperson said. Twenty-eight hits were recorded.
The Ukrainian army continued to deliver strikes throughout the day on June 22. In total, 44 shells were fired at communities on the left bank of the Dnieper, emergency services said. Damage was sustained in Alyoshki, Krynki, Dnepryany, Kazachyi Lagerya, Staraya Zburyevka and Sagi. Information on casualties and damage is being verified.
Efforts are continuing on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region to tackle the aftermath of the flood caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant on June 6. Several communities remain flooded. People are still being evacuated via boat in the Golaya Pristan area, the authorities said.
