Russian Justice Ministry puts Nevzlin, Moscow lawmaker Stupin on foreign agents list

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - The Justice Ministry has assigned the foreign agent status to a former shareholder of the Yukos oil company, Leonid Nevzlin, who was sentenced in his absence to life imprisonment, and a Moscow City Duma member, Yevgeny Stupin, the ministry's website said on Friday.

"Nevzlin participated in the creation and dissemination of information materials of foreign agents to an unlimited circle of persons, [and] spoke out against the special military operation in Ukraine," the statement said.

Nevzlin has resided abroad since 2003. In 2008, Moscow City Court handed him an in absentia life sentence after finding him guilty of organizing murders and attempted murders.

"Stupin disseminated, including by using modern information technologies, false information about decisions made by Russian organs of public authority and their policies, spoke out against the special military operation in Ukraine," the ministry said.

The latest additions also include Mikhail Lobanov, a mathematician and public figure, Ilya Kolmanovsky, a scientist and publicist, Vitaly Bovar, an opposition activist, Robert Latypov, a historian, and Alexander Belik, an activist.
