ROSTOV-ON-DON. June 26 (Interfax) - Ukrainian units have taken a number of unsuccessful attempts to cross the Dnieper in the Kherson region and hide under the Antonovka Bridge's remaining structures on the eastern bank, acting governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo said.
"A number of small groups of the enemy have actually taken a number of attempts in the past three days to cross the Dnieper by boat and hide under the bridge. This is where they were killed by our military," Saldo said on Telegram on Monday.
He denied claims that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had allegedly secured positions under the bridge on the eastern bank of the Dnieper.
Saldo did not rule out that Ukrainian soldiers would continue to be sent to the eastern bank. "Our troops are in position and are full of courage and determination," he said.
The 1.4-km-long and 25-m-wide Antonovka Bridge used to connect the city of Kherson to the eastern bank of the Dnieper. It was destroyed during hostilities.
