MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court has ruled to find physicist Valentin Golubkin, a senior research fellow at the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), guilty of high treason and sentence him to 12 years in a high-security penitentiary, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse.
"Golubkin shall be sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penitentiary and one year of freedom restriction," the judicial panel that tried Golubkin said in its judgment pronounced on Monday.
Golubkin was tried behind closed doors as the case filings are classified. The court only publicly announced the introductory and operative parts of the judgment.
The prosecution asked the court to sentence Golubkin to 12 years in prison.
Golubkin, who was arrested in 2021, has denied any wrongdoing.
As reported with reference to Golubkin's defense team, the scientist, acting on orders from his superior, submitted progress reports to Johan Steelant of the European ESA-ESTEC, the coordinator of the Hexafly-INT project in which TsAGI participated, in November 2018.
