Kremlin says absolute majority of Russians support special operation in Ukraine

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The overwhelming majority of Russians support the special military operation and its objectives, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov on Thursday to comment on the results of an opinion poll according to which the number of Russians supporting the special military operation was equal to the number of those who support negotiations. "The information we have is different; it still demonstrates absolute, overwhelming support for the special operation, [and] absolutely dominant support for the president," Peskov said.

"Everything is clear about it, the methodologies are clear. In fact, this is what our major sociologists say," he added.

As for the poll, which journalists asked Peskov to comment on, he said he could not do so as he had no knowledge of the poll's details.

"I am unaware of the sampling [or] the method of this poll, or where it was held," he said.

A follow-up question was asked about the Russian government's priorities. Journalists also asked whether negotiations remained on the agenda as a way to settle the conflict. "The main thing for Russia is to achieve our objectives which were set and formulated by the president. These objectives will be achieved," Peskov replied.

"Certain efforts are being made to achieve a portion of these objectives through political and diplomatic channels but, unfortunately, there are no current prerequisites for this, so the special military operation continues," he said.
