Stoltenberg believes too early to draw conclusions from Wagner events

BRUSSELS. June 29 (Interfax) - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said he considers it too early to draw conclusions from the recent events involving the Wagner Group in Russia.

"It is early to draw any final conclusions," Stoltenberg told journalists in Brussels.

"It is also not clear how many of the Wagner forces will end up in Belarus or in other places," he said.

High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell made similar remarks on the matter on Thursday.

"Everything remains unclear what has happened, or were behind this attempt of military rebellion," Borrell told journalists before a European Union summit.

He insisted that the EU's only response to the events in Russia should be continuing assistance to Ukraine.

"I will ask the leaders [of the EU countries] to continue funding the European Peace Facility," Borrell said, referring to a fund used, in particular, for providing military assistance to Kiev.
