MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Sudan with Sudanese Sovereignty Council Deputy Chairman Malik Agar, who is on a working visit to Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on June 29 met with Deputy Chairman of the Supreme (Sovereignty) Council of the Republic of Sudan Malik Agar, who is on a working visit to Moscow," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

The participants attached primary importance to the development of the situation in Sudan, where an armed confrontation between regular army units and Rapid Support Forces is continuing, it said.

"The Russian side expressed its deep concern over the military-political crisis in Sudan and its dangerous implications for the country and the entire region and highlighted the pressing need for urgent measures to stop the fighting. Russia also reiterated its strong support for Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty and insisted that foreign interference in Sudanese internal affairs is unacceptable," it said.

Lavrov and Agar also discussed steps to strengthen Russian-Sudanese ties and expand cooperation in the exploration and extraction of mineral resources, agriculture, and energy sectors.

"Agar conveyed an oral message from Sudanese Supreme (Sovereignty) Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to Russian President Vladimir Putin," it said.
