Russian Baltic Fleet's naval aviation fighters hold missile firing drills

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The Sukhoi Su-27 naval aviation fighters from the Baltic Fleet have fired at mock enemy aircraft, the Russian Baltic Fleet said in a statement on Thursday.

"During the tactical flight exercise, Su-27 fighter pilots practiced detecting and destroying aerial targets imitating mock enemy aircraft, using hung weapons, both solo and in pairs," it said.

The targets were SAB-250 candle aircraft bombs in a garland with luminous elements, and placed by a Su-24 frontline bomber.

The practice flights and medium-range guided-missile launches were carried out within a strictly designated area for airborne shooting - over the Fleet's naval training range, the statement said.

"Before the start of the combat training, all necessary measures were taken to ensure the safety of the local population, aircraft and ships. For the duration of the exercise, the range was declared temporarily dangerous to flights and marine navigation," the statement said.

Over 100 troops and more than ten Su-27 aircraft are taking part in the exercise that will last until the end of this week, it said.
