TBILISI. June 30 (Interfax) - Georgia will not impose unilateral sanctions on Russia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.
"We clearly said at the very beginning of the Ukraine conflict that we would not take a single step to the detriment of our country and our people. We remain committed to this pragmatic policy, and we will not change this policy," Garibashvili said in an annual government report on Friday.
Opposition MPs shouted in disagreement when Garibashvili said that the Georgian government was not planning to impose unilateral sanctions on Russia.
Garibashvili also said that the policy of the Georgian leadership bolstered national sovereignty.
"Our actions are truly bolstering our sovereignty. Imposing sanctions on Russia and severing trade with it would have been completely irresponsible. I would call that a betrayal of our people," Garibashvili said.
He noted that Georgia had created 250,000 jobs in the past two years and its economy boasted double-digit growth.
