CHISINAU. June 30 (Interfax) - A Moldovan border police officer has been killed and another one injured in a shooting at the airport of Chisinau, unconfirmed Moldovan media reports citing law enforcement sources said.
A spokesperson for Chisinau's General Police Inspectorate, Diana Fetco, has confirmed that a foreign national upon arrival seized a pistol from a policeman, fired several shots and took hostages, because Border Police banned him from entering Moldova.
According to unconfirmed data, the violator is a Russian citizen who flew in from Turkey but was banned from entering the country.
Airport staff and passengers have been evacuated. The incident has caused all flights scheduled for June 30 to be delayed. Riot police are preparing to storm the premises where the foreigner has barricaded himself.
