Russian Defense Ministry receives another batch of upgraded Su-30SM2 fighter jets

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - The Irkutsk Aviation Plant, part of Rostec's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), has delivered another batch of upgraded Sukhoi Su-30SM2 fighter jets to the Russian Defense Ministry, Rostec's press service said in a statement.

"Earlier today, we transferred another batch of new, upgraded Su-30SM2 fighter jets to the Russian Defense Ministry. Planes of this type have proven their major effectiveness over years of operation, and are very important for ensuring national defense capacity," the press service quoted Rostec first deputy head Vladimir Artyakov as saying.

The Irkutsk Aviation Plant has been fulfilling government defense orders for aircraft on schedule, Artyakov said.

"All planes to be delivered this year are either at the final assembly shop or [with] the test flight division," Artyakov said.

The Su-30SM2 is a derivative of planes operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces and marine aviation. According to its developer, the upgrade increases the detection and identification range for airborne targets. The fighters are armed with new precision-guided weapons for striking air, ground and sea targets at distances of several hundred kilometers.
