MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - Russian agencies and security services are performing their duties, and consolidated around the president during the attempted mutiny, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday, in response to a question about how the Kremlin would explain the security services' failure to prevent the June 24 incident.
"I will leave that without comment. All services, ministries, agencies and security services are performing their duties and are doing so properly," Peskov said.
As to whether the Kremlin is happy with the performance of the security services, Peskov said, "You know that the president has noted the high degree of consolidation, both in the Armed Forces and in the security services, around [himself] during those difficult days, and he expressed his gratitude to those who gathered around [him]. Obviously, [that] includes officers of the services you have mentioned, who came to the Kremlin's Cathedral Square a week ago and who were addressed by the head of state."
