Authorities of Russia's Belgorod region propose that Shebekino residents, evacuated amid attacks, go home - governor

VORONEZH. July 4 (Interfax) - The current situation and the repaired homes and infrastructure allow Shebekino residents, evacuated amid Ukrainian attacks, to come back, Russia's Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

"Starting today, we will be offering Shebekino residents, those staying at temporary accommodation centers, to return home within the next two weeks. Of course, this applies exclusively to those whose homes and apartments are not ruined or damaged," Gladkov said on Telegram on Tuesday.

Infrastructure has been restored in the town, he said.

"Most importantly, residents are returning home little by little. There is everything necessary for a normal life: power supply, tap water and sewage, open stores and a working hospital. We are closely monitoring the movement on the other side of the border, yet the town has to go back to a normal life," Gladkov said.

Seventy-two residencies, including three residential buildings, were fully restored in Shebekino, he said. The roofs and windows are fixed in the first turn.

The governor also reported progress in reconstructions in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Shebekino municipal district, where Ukrainian strikes damaged 566 residencies, including nine residential buildings and 557 private homes.

"Repairs are finalized in 12 private homes, we are actively restoring the heating contour and fixing roofs in residential buildings, as well," Gladkov said.

The Shebekino municipal district of the Belgorod region came under massive attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in late May - early June, which forced local residents to evacuate.

Two residential buildings and 78 private homes are damaged beyond repair in Shebekino and Novaya Tavolzhanka. The authorities promise to provide the residents with similar accommodation by the end of this year.

The damaged infrastructure and residences are being repaired. About 30 construction teams are at work in Shebekino.
