Russian Defense Ministry reports downing 3 Ukrainian attack planes

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - Russian forces have downed three Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-25 attack planes in the Zaporozhye region and the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the past 24 hours, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"Fighter jets of the Russian Aerospace Forces downed a Ukrainian Su-25 jet near Grigorovka and a Mil Mi-8 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force near Novogrodovka in the DPR," Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

"Air defense downed two Su-25 jets of the Ukrainian Air Force in the vicinity of Georgiyevka in the DPR and Orekhov in the Zaporozhye region," Konashenkov said.

In addition, 14 Ukrainian drones were downed in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions and the Lugansk People's Republic and five projectiles fired by a U.S.-made HIMARS high mobility artillery rocket system have been intercepted over the past day, he said.

"Tactical aircraft, army aviation, missile forces and artillery from the Russian Armed Forces' contingent hit 85 Ukrainian artillery units at their firing positions, as well as troops and military hardware in 102 areas over the past 24 hours," Konashenkov said.
