Ukrainian forces fire 92 shells at Dnieper eastern bank in Kherson region in past 24 hours

ROSTOV-ON-DON. July 5 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Armed Forces fired 92 artillery shells at communities on the Dnieper eastern bank in the Kherson region, where the flood aftermath is still being cleaned up, a representative of the regional emergency services told reporters.

Tube artillery shelled civilian infrastructure in Novaya Kakhovka, Kakhovka, Novaya Zburyevka and Tavriysk in the early hours of Wednesday, he said. Thirty-three hits were recorded. Information about casualties and damage is being verified.

Ukrainian attacks continued throughout the day on July 4. A total of 59 shells were fired at communities on the Dnieper eastern bank, the emergency services said. Alyoshki, Korsunka, Krynki, Kazachy Lagerya, Podstepnoye and Sagi were hit.

Formations of the Russian Dnieper group of forces returned fire and destroyed three 120mm mortar crews, three M777 howitzers and a number of Ukrainian army positions on the western bank. According to the emergency services, Ukrainian forces lost 32 men killed and 26 wounded.

Efforts are ongoing on the Dnieper eastern bank to mitigate the effects of the flood caused by destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant dam on June 6 in the Kherson region. Eight communities (about 8,000 homes) remain inundated.
