Russian Defense Ministry reports repelling 17 Ukrainian attacks in several sectors

MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) - Russian forces have repelled nine Ukrainian attacks in the Donetsk sector, five in the southern Donetsk sector, two in the Krasny Liman sector, and one in the Zaporozhye sector, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"In the Donetsk sector, defending units of the southern group of forces acted skillfully and courageously to successfully repel nine enemy attacks near Belogorovka, Pervomaiskoye, Severnoye, Nevelkoye, and Krasnogorovka in the Donetsk People's Republic [DPR] over the past 24 hours," Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian army's losses in this area include up to 290 troops, three tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle, five automobiles, three pickup trucks, a Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, two D-30 howitzers, and one Msta-B howitzer, he said.

"In the Krasny Liman sector, selfless and well-coordinated actions by the central group of forces using aircraft, artillery, and heavy flamethrower systems [thermobaric rocket launchers] repelled two attacks by assault groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 63rd and 66th Mechanized Brigades near Makeyevka and Chervonaya Dibrova in the Lugansk People's Republic [LPR]," he said.

In the southern Donetsk sector, defending units of the eastern group of forces used artillery and thermobaric rocket launchers to repel five attacks by a Ukrainian motorized infantry company in the DPR, he said.

"In the Zaporozhye sector [...] Russian forces repelled an attack by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 128th Mountain Assault Brigade near Zherebyanki in the Zaporozhye region," Konashenkov said.

Aircraft struck concentrations of Ukrainian military personnel and hardware near Preobrazhenka and Malaya Tokmachka in the Zaporozhye region.

In the DPR and LPR, Russian forces hit personnel and hardware of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 21st, 42nd, and 63rd Mechanized Brigades and the 95th Air Assault Brigade.

"The actions of two Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups were thwarted near Serebryanka and Torskoye in the DPR," he said.

In the Krasny Liman sector, the Ukrainian army's losses included over 90 troops, one tank, three armored fighting vehicles, three pickup trucks, a Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery system, an Akatsiya howitzer, and two D-30 howitzers, he said.

In the DPR and the Zaporozhye region, concentrations of Ukrainian personnel were struck, and a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group was eliminated in the DPR, he said.

"The actions of three Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups were neutralized near Lugovskoye, Marfopol, and Mirnoye in the Zaporozhye region," he said.

"The enemy's overall losses in these sectors over the past 24 hours amounted to over 300 Ukrainian troops, two infantry fighting vehicles, two armored fighting vehicles, three automobiles, two Msta-B howitzers, two D-20 howitzers, two Akatsiya self-propelled artillery systems and a Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery system," Konashenkov said.

Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have continued attempts to advance in the Donetsk, Krasny Liman, southern Donetsk, and Zaporozhye sectors, he said.

In the Kupyansk sector, the western group of forces used tactical and army aircraft and artillery to strike personnel and hardware of the Ukrainian 14th Mechanized Brigade in the Kharkov region, killing up to 20 troops and destroying an armored personnel carrier and two automobiles, he said.

Russian forces also destroyed a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 weapon locating radar system in the Kharkov region, he said.

"In the Kherson sector, up to 60 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and four automobiles, three U.S.-made M777 artillery systems, two Bukovel electronic warfare stations, and a control station for unmanned aerial vehicles have been destroyed over the past 24 hours," Konashenkov said.
