Russian Northern Fleet fighter jets train combat maneuvering in Arctic

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - MiG-29K fighter jets of the Separate Naval Aviation Regiment of the Russian Northern Fleet's Air Force and Air Defense Army have trained combat maneuvering in duos and simulated a massive strike on ground and seaborne targets during an exercise in the Arctic, the fleet press service said on Thursday.

"The exercise was aimed at mastering maneuvering skills for strikes on hostile targets from various directions," the press service said.

The MiG-29K fighter jets performed flights at medium and high altitudes and practiced air combat with offensive and defensive maneuvering, it said.

"Young pilots took part in the flights. It was the first piloting of a warplane for some of them," the press service said.

Over 20 flights took place, it said.
