TASHKENT. July 10 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev won the early presidential election on Sunday with 87.5% of the vote, Uzbek Central Elections Commission Chairman Zainiddin Nizomhojayev said.
"According to the preliminary information, 13,625,055 people, or 87.5% of all voters who came to polls, voted for Mirziyoyev," Nizomhojayev said at a press briefing on Monday.
Mirziyoyev is thereby elected head of state, consistent with Article 35 of the Law on Presidential Election in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Over 19.5 million voters were registered for the presidential election in Uzbekistan, and 15,671,405 of them cast their ballots. More than 800,000 voters, including about 188,000 abroad, voted ahead of time, between June 28 and July 5.
