Ukraine tried to attack Crimean Bridge, military airfield in Rostov region - Russian Defense Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - The Crimean Bridge and a military airfield in the Rostov region were among the targets Ukraine tried to attack on Sunday, Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces Staff Col. Gen. Viktor Afzalov said.

"Air defense destroyed two missiles targeting the Kerch bridge and the Morozovsk airfield. There are no casualties or damage," Afzalov said at a conference chaired by Chief of the Russian General Staff, commander of the Russian contingent in the special military operation zone Valery Gerasimov.

Another two missiles were intercepted by electronic warfare systems and fell down. There are no casualties, Afzalov said.

The Russian Defense Ministry identified a site in the Kaluga region as another target of the Ukrainian attack.

A video released by the ministry on Monday shows Gerasimov chairing the conference from the contingent headquarters in the special military operation zone.

The ministry's footage shows head of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate Sergei Rudskoi and Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff Alexei Kim attending the meeting.

"Please note that the Aerospace Forces have accomplished their mission," Gerasimov said on the video.

The ministry said that Kiev unsuccessfully tried to attack targets in Crimea and the Rostov and Kaluga regions on July 9, using S-200 air defense missiles converted to strike on ground targets.

"Contingent commander Gen. of the Army Valery Gerasimov has listened to a report by Chief of the Aerospace Forces Staff Col. Gen. Viktor Afzalov on the destruction of four Ukrainian ballistic targets," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

"According to the report of Col. Gen. Viktor Afzalov, air defense downed two S-200 missiles, while another two missiles of the same type were diverted by ECM systems. There are no casualties or damage," the ministry said.

"Chief of the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff Gen. of the Army Valery Gerasimov tasked the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate and officers from the contingent's command post with organizing systemic work to detect the places of storage and preparation and launch positions of S-200 missiles and similar weapons of the enemy and planning their preemptive destruction," the ministry said.

Gerasimov also ordered that "additional measures be taken promptly to enhance the security of sites from airstrikes," the ministry said.
